Luxury Living in Cannes

16 August 2017

Discover a Wealthy World of Retail, Restaurants & Recreation

For a small town, Cannes is big on luxury; housing the finest fashion labels, an excess of extravagant eateries, and an outpouring of opulent activities within its bustling centre - all of which can be discovered when on a luxury stay at Amarante Cannes.

Luxury Shopping in Cannes

Nestled within Cannes’ compact centre, a revered retail mecca awaits; where you can spend until your heart’s content in Provence’s most prestigious shopping precincts, which are easily navigated via a scenic stroll through the town.

The most lauded of these is undoubtedly La Croisette, the natural habitat of the wealthy jet set; where a walk along the palm aligned promenade will acquaint you with both stunning views over the Bay of Cannes, and a dizzying array of designer boutiques. In particular, French fashion houses abound along the Boulevard de La Croisette, with the likes of Chanel, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Louis Vuitton bringing touches of Parisian elegance to the Cote d’Azur. Italians too are well represented, with labels like Gucci, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, and Prada accompanying their opulent neighbours. Beyond the realm of fashion, those in the market for something more sparkly can also splash out at jewellery giants Cartier, and Van Cleef and Arpels.

Set one street back, parallel to the Boulevard de La Croisette, Rue d’Antibes resides as Cannes’ main shopping street. Here, a blend of affordable fashion houses, chic interior design shops, and a smattering of luxury boutiques make their home; with high street favourites like ZARA, Lacoste, Kenzo, and Levi’s among the eclectic outlets. Situated a short stroll from Rue d’Antibes, Cannes also houses a superb selection of markets - perfect for those who enjoy their luxury labels without the hefty price tags!

So prestigious is Cannes’ luxury retail culture, the region also hosts an annual festival dedicated to the art of shopping each spring. Set across four days, the celebration of spending sees haute couture shows, and other fashion related events arrive in town; with opportunities to partake in some high-end retail therapy, aplenty.

Refined Riviera Restaurants

After all that shopping, you may be in need of some much needed replenishment. As it happens, the French Riviera is a veritable treasure trove of revered restaurants - our favourites of which are listed below.

Located on Rue la Fontaine, in a charming side street behind the lavish La Croisette, lives L’Affable - but despite the unfortunate name (to English eyes), the food is far from laughable. The restaurant was formerly a favourite of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and though the power couple have now parted ways, the elegant eatery remains at the forefront of Cote d’Azur cuisine. Responsible for the delectable dining on display is Jean Paul Battaglia - an exemplary advocate of French fare, who brings innovative and contemporary touches to the classicist of cuisines. Among his signature creations is the Soufflé au Grand-Marnier - which is assured to have you shouting ‘c'est magnifique’ in your best French accent, so as not to do the chef a disservice. And speaking of service, here it is superb; complemented further by the tasteful art on the walls, and the formal French environs in which you dine.

A welcome addition to any Cannes itinerary, is a spot of wining and dining at Table 22 by Mantel. Situated in historic Le Suquet, the restaurant resides in the most picturesque part of town; which supplies a bounty of beautiful backdrops, to accompany the exquisite dining experiences on offer. And exquisite they are! Headed by Noël Mantel, Table 22 provides good produce and Provencal flavours in abundance - which are far from showy, yet effortlessly sophisticated, and served in an unpretentious Mediterranean atmosphere. Deep-fried courgette flowers in a light saffron sauce, the marinated sea bream in citrus fruits, and the house speciality of marinated salmon, are a mere handful of the must-tries.

Situated just steps from Cannes’ famous Marché Forville, Le Bistrot Gourmand relies on the all-encompassing ingredients from its neighbour, to deliver a stunning menu filled with seasonal produce. For this reason, locals and tourists alike flock to the charismatic bistro; which is simple, yet assured in its deliverance - with Guillame Aragon an accomplished overseer of the classic Provencal cuisine on display. The friendly ambiance, and elegant interiors - embodied in the light wood panelling and wall displays of modern art - also aid in fuelling Le Bistrot Gourmand’s stance as one of the most delightful dining experiences to be had in Cannes.

Luxury Leisure in the Cote d’Azur

By day, or by night, Cannes is your one-stop destination for a world of luxury leisure. This is perhaps best showcased in Cannes’ famous Film Festival which arrives in the city every spring, but there are plenty of other extravagant events throughout the year.

One such occasion which is unwavering in its attracting of the world’s wealthiest, is the Cannes Yachting Festival - which returns to the Cote d’Azur in September for its 40th edition.
