3 November 2016

Even in the Winter months, Cannes is still a highly desirable area to visit. Take a look at what is going on this November.

Marathon des Alpes Maritimes
13th November 2016

The glamorous Cote d’Azur takes centre stage this November as thousands of people take to the streets to cheer on competitors, as they make their way from the Promenade des Anglais in Nice to the Promenade de la Croisette in Cannes. With over 12,000 people expected to compete, Marathon des Alpes Maritimes is an internationally renowned event and attracts runners from all corners of the globe.

Described by many as the most beautiful marathon in the world, the scenic route along the French Riviera offers competitors a superb opportunity to experience the illustrious seaside towns that play host to the event. With destinations such as Cagnes-sur Mer, renowned for its historic winding streets and Palais des Festivals, home to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, the Marathon des Alpes Maritimes takes you along 42,195km of one of the most striking coastlines in the world.

Whether competing or not, race day is a spectacle not to be missed, with no end of live entertainment and fine cuisine dotted along the course. And be sure to check out the Running Expo Village for the more fervent of the entertainment, where you will find all manner of exhibitions and fun dedicated to the world of running, in an area that expects to accumulate over 30,000 visitors during the course of the event.

Annual Figurine Fair
10th November – 24th December (2pm – 6pm)

Attracting over 8,000 visitors each year, the Annual Figurine Fair boasts one of the largest model collections in France. This year the event takes place at the Library La Strada in Mouans-Sartoux. Commonly referred to as santons, the figurines on display are expertly crafted throughout the year by the santonniers, a collection of highly skilled craftsmen, who specialise in constructing the statuettes from the initial carving process through to the careful application of the bright paint finish that exemplifies the incredible attention to detail required by the santonniers.

The hundreds of ornaments on display come in all shapes and sizes and together make up a number of scenarios representative of real life in rural France. Should you want to take part of the exhibition home, there will be the opportunity to purchase some of the beautifully crafted figurines, as well as interactive workshops where you can attempt to emulate the handy work of the santonniers.
